Top Ten Debut Author's I'm excited about

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme sponsored by The Broke and the Bookish and this week's Top Ten list is all author's making their debut in 2014 and which books I'm looking forward to.

I'll admit to being a little intimidated by this week's topic but thanks to a wonderful list at Goodreads featuring 2014 debut authors and their works, and saw I had already had a whole bunch shelved on my Can't-wait-til-it's out shelf that I was off to a wonderful start in compiling my list.   Granted, most of them are either Young Adult or New Adult books, but since that's mostly what I've been reading lately, I'm good with that.

So in no particular order, here's my top ten for the week:

Hanley discovers Nate living in her garage.  Broken herself, she forms a bond with him and even though she knows she shouldn't let him stay, she finds she doesn't want to lose her connection with him.

Both broken, Josie and Tristan share a past and come face to face again years later, which puts them both in danger.  Their past will either make them or break them as a couple.

Andi is tired of living in the shadow of her "perfect" sister and devises a plan to steal some of the spotlight for herself but things don't go according to plan.
Laurel has a school assignment - to write a letter to a dead person but once she starts she doesn't stop.   She doesn't turn them into her teacher, but she writes letter after letter and even starts writing about something that has happened to her and finally comes to realize that her late sister was not as perfect as she had thought she was.

Love the title alone but the reviews on Goodreads are comparing to a cross between Cruel Intentions and Pretty in Pink.
Girl is dying so she works on her bucket list only to have her cancer go into remission.  Will she be able to live with the repercussions of some of the unforgiveable things that she's done to others?

Gordie struggles with PTSD after a horrific family tragedy.  He moves in with his brother and starts to move forward when his dad show up in his life again, sending him spiraling back down.  Is he strong enough to get through his past again?
A tale of friendship as Reagan and her country-singer best friend embark on a summer tour with the goal of healing their broken hearts.

Falling Into Place by Amy ZhangAmy is a teen girl who attempts suicide and this is told from the perspective of her neglected childhood friend.

No Place To Fall by Jaye Robin Brown
Good girl Amber feels trapped in a small town by her dysfunctional family and hopes to someday escape both to pursue her love of music.  When her whole world changes, it's time for her to decide between doing what her good-girl side would do or to continue on the path that she longs for.

There's my top ten - did any of these make it onto your top ten list?

  1. This is a really good list! There are some on here I'm surprised I missed - the only one we share is "Side Effects May Vary." I'm very interested in that one, I've read a couple YA dealing with cancer lately and one of them fell horribly flat so I'm hoping this one will be a bit better!

  2. I've not seen These Gentle Wounds yet. Sounds like a good read. Great list.
